Diagnosis

Acute pyelonephritis can be diagnosed in the presence of:

  • Typical clinical features of pyelonephritis, and
  • Urine culture confirming bacteriuria

Imaging is not routinely required for diagnosis, but may be considered in atypical cases or when complications are suspected
